Staffer scoops ACSZ Award

TIMES of Zambia Business reporter Maimbolwa Mulikelela has scooped the 2010 Best Journalist Print Media Awards for the Agriculture and Commercial Society of Zambia (ACSZ).
ACSZ president Elizabeth Nkumbula said the article entitled ‘2010 Agric Show marks Zambian’s sustainable development benefits’ highlighted the achievements in the agriculture, manufacturing and other productive sectors of the economy.
Ms Mulikelela scooped the first prize of Best Journalist for the Print Media while Mr Brian Mwale of Muvi Television took first prize in the Electronic category respectively.
Zambia Daily Mail staffer Nancy Mwape took the second prize in the print media category.

SNDP to grow economy, reduce poverty

THE recently launched Sixth National Development Plan (SNDP) is resolute in nature, mainly focusing on sustaining the recent positive economic strides which should translate into better lives for ordinary citizens through poverty reduction.

The SNDP succeeds the fifth national document which was heavily battered by the global economic crisis of 2008, and is under an apt theme, ‘sustained economic growth and reducing poverty.’

Zambia has posted significant economic upturn, recording annual average growth rate of 6.1 per cent while poverty had seen nine per cent being knocked off, down to 64 per cent.

These positive economic indicators will be driving Zambia in the next five years during which time improvements are expected in various sectors.

Export growers sector to grow 10p.c.

ZEGA Limited has said the increased economic activity in Zambia will boost the export growers business by as much as 10 per cent next year.
ZEGA chief executive officer Don McDonnel said in an interview in Lusaka that the increasing business activities and the coming of Air Egypt into Zambia would boost ZEGA performance.
He said ZEGA, whose aim is to provide an efficient and adequate air freight service to exports, was excited about the present economic environment and wanted to take advantage.
